The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur turned into a run-fest during the IPL 2025 Eliminator, with a whopping 436 runs scored across 40 overs. Both Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians took full advantage of the batting-friendly conditions, but amid all the fireworks, one bowler stood tall — Jasprit Bumrah.

On a night when bowlers were being routinely dispatched to the boundary, Bumrah’s calm, control, and class shone through. The MI pace ace delivered four crucial overs, conceding just 27 runs and picking up the all-important wicket of Washington Sundar, who was threatening to tilt the game in Gujarat’s favour with a blazing 48 off just 23 balls. Bumrah’s searing yorker to dismiss Sundar was a standout moment, cutting short a dangerous partnership and breaking GT’s momentum.

Such was Bumrah’s impact that Gujarat could manage only two boundaries and a six against him. MI skipper Hardik Pandya, understandably elated, lauded Bumrah’s value with a cheeky yet fitting comparison: “It’s like Mumbai housing prices – he’s that expensive. Whenever you think the game is slipping, just bring him on. That’s a luxury.”

Hardik Pandya further explained that keeping Bumrah’s overs in hand for key phases allowed MI to control the tempo when the match seemed to be slipping away. “I was just watching the scoreboard and thought, if we can save a few runs at the end, Jassi’s over could stretch the margin,” he said.
Among the six bowlers who completed their quotas, only Rashid Khan (economy of 7.8) came close to Bumrah’s economy rate of 6.8 — a remarkable stat on such a flat deck.

While Bumrah delivered with the ball, it was Rohit Sharma who earned the Player of the Match award for his explosive 81 off 50 balls, propelling MI to a formidable 228/5. GT responded with 208/6 but fell 20 runs short. With the win, Mumbai Indians booked a spot in the second qualifier against Punjab Kings, with the winner earning a place in the June 3 final versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
