India all-rounder Hardik Pandya endured one of the unluckiest dismissals of the Asia Cup 2025 when he was run out at the non-striker’s end during the group-stage clash against Oman in Abu Dhabi on Friday (September 19). The unfortunate moment came in the eighth over, just after Pandya had opened his account with a single.

Facing Jiten Ramanandi, Sanju Samson drove a full-length delivery straight down the ground. The bowler instinctively put out his hand to stop the ball, and in the process, it brushed his fingertips before crashing directly onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

Pandya, who had backed up too far from his crease, was caught short with no time to turn back. The replay showed the ball barely deviating, yet the faint deflection was enough to seal Pandya’s fate. It was a classic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time — the type of dismissal that leaves even the best players shaking their heads in disbelief.

The dismissal added to India’s early jitters after captain Suryakumar Yadav had won the toss and opted to bat first for the first time in the tournament. While India had already secured their Super Four berth with wins over UAE and Pakistan, the match against Oman was seen as an opportunity to test the team’s bench strength.

For Hardik Pandya, however, the night will be remembered less for experimentation and more for one of the cruelest dismissals in cricket.
