Tempers flared at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur during the high-stakes clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) as MI skipper Hardik Pandya lost his cool with young pacer Ashwani Kumar. The incident occurred in the 11th over of PBKS’s chase, with the batting side in a commanding position at 89 for 1, chasing 185.

In a bid to break the partnership and halt Punjab’s momentum, Pandya handed the ball to Ashwani Kumar, expecting a tight over. However, things quickly went south for the left-arm seamer. His over began with a single before Josh Inglis took charge. The Australian batter reverse-scooped a low full toss over short third man for a boundary.

On the very next ball, Ashwani delivered another loose delivery—pitched up outside off—and Inglis capitalised again, drilling it past the vacant long-off region for another four.

Frustrated with the lack of discipline and deviation from the bowling plan, Hardik Pandya visibly lost his composure. Cameras captured the MI skipper animatedly reprimanding Ashwani, clearly upset with the execution and the growing pressure on his team.

The situation worsened as Ashwani conceded yet another boundary, allowing Inglis to completely take control of the over. He finished his first over with figures of 0 for 16, far from what Hardik and MI had hoped for in that crucial moment.

As the match progressed, Punjab Kings made light work of the chase. They romped home with nine balls to spare and seven wickets in hand. Josh Inglis remained unbeaten on a superb 64, ably supported by captain Shreyas Iyer. Earlier, Priyansh Arya had set the tone with a fluent 62 before falling to Mitchell Santner.

For Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav’s 57-run knock helped them post 184/7, but it wasn’t enough to stop a confident Punjab side on the night.
