Perhaps one of the most anticipated group stage matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 was played between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. It is the 57th match of the season and it is of utmost importance because these two teams are currently seated at the very top of the table and both have been in outstanding form throughout the season so far.
GT skipper, Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first and it looked like a poor decision as Lucknow Super Giants’ bowlers had dominated GT’s batting lineup and Hardik’s men could never really find a strong footing in the first innings. Apart from Shubman Gill who scored an unbeaten 63 off 49, none of the GT batters failed to contribute much.
Although Gill’s knock was slow, it was important as he made sure that Gujarat reach at least a respectable total of 144 runs. One of the best performers of LSG in the first innings was undoubtedly Avesh Khan as he picked up 2 outstanding wickets of Matthew Wade and Hardik Pandya respectively.
The dismissal of Hardik Pandya must be talked about the most as it was a piece of art by Avesh Khan. His sensational out-swinging delivery completely fooled Hardik Pandya with the extra bounce and he gave away a big edge behind to wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock.
Hardik could not believe his eyes and he was completely stunned by his own dismissal. His reaction was even captured on camera and it went viral on social media in no time. With this, he has already picked up 18 wickets in the Indian Premier League 2022 and is slowly moving towards becoming a proper contender to win the Purple cap.
