In a surprising move, Mumbai Indians (MI) are reportedly considering trading star all-rounder Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Green, who had a stellar debut season with MI, could be a valuable addition to RCB’s batting lineup. Green, hailed as a rising star in Australian cricket, entered the IPL 2023 auction with a base price of INR 2 crore.
MI aggressively pursued him and eventually acquired him for a staggering INR 17.5 crore, making him the most expensive Australian player and the second most expensive overall in IPL auction history.
Green impressed in his maiden IPL season, particularly with his batting prowess. He displayed impressive dominance and played some crucial knocks for MI. In 16 matches, he amassed 452 runs at an impressive average of 50.22 and a strike rate of 160.28, with a top score of 100*. Additionally, he contributed with 6 wickets, maintaining an average of 60.17, an economy of 9.50, and a strike rate of 38.00.

The reported trade stems from MI’s recent acquisition of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya. With Pandya’s return to MI, the team needed to free up some financial space to participate in the upcoming IPL auction. Trading Green to RCB, who possess a significant purse, could provide the necessary funds.
Green’s potential move to RCB would significantly bolster their batting lineup. His ability to score big runs at a rapid pace would complement their existing batting core. The IPL 2024 player auction is set to take place on December 19 in Dubai and will be a mini-auction, marking the first time the event will be held outside India.
