It was a moment to remember for star Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf during the 2022 T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan in Melbourne on October 23. The incident is related to Indian superstar Virat Kohli, who dramatically shifted the entire game around. With India needing 28 runs from just eight balls, Kohli took matters into his own hands against Rauf, and two successive sixes changed the equation to 16 runs off the last over.

Fast forward by more than 18 months, a viral video captured a fan reminding Haris Rauf of those two iconic sixes. In a Major League Cricket match, while Rauf was fielding near the boundary, a fan told him, “Haris bhai, Melbourne abhi bhi yaad aata hai? Virat ke 2 chakke, yaad hai?” meaning, “Do you still remember Melbourne? Virat’s two sixes?”.

The 2022 T20 World Cup clash was a real roller-coaster for Haris Rauf. He had taken those big wickets of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav and placed Pakistan in a strong position. Kohli’s late-game heroics, however, overshadowed the efforts of Rauf as Kohli remained unbeaten on 82 from 53 balls, guiding India to a pulsating four-wicket win.

The final figures of Haris Rauf read 4-0-36-2, with those two sixes becoming a definitive memory. Again, the two met in the 2024 T20 World Cup. In the Group A match, scheduled at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, Rauf was into his elements with three wickets for 21 runs from his three overs. He helped bowl out India for 119 runs. Despite his excellent bowling, Pakistan failed to chase the modest target of 120 runs, losing the match by seven runs.

Well, the 2024 T20 World Cup went all wrong for Pakistan. Apart from the defeat at the hands of India, the USDAs of the United States of America also handed them a defeat that saw their exit from the tournament without much hassle. The two losses in Group A meant that the Babar Azam-led side did not advance to the Super 8s, marking a forgettable campaign for the Men in Green.
