In the realm of women’s cricket, only a select group of players have had the privilege of participating in all eight editions of the Women’s T20 World Cup to date. Among them is India’s dynamic captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, who is gearing up to take part in the ninth edition. Other notable cricketers who have made this remarkable journey include Stafanie Taylor, Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, and Chamari Athapaththu.

Harmanpreet Kaur boasts an impressive record in T20 World Cup history, having played in 35 matches and scored 576 runs at an average of 20.57. Her standout performance came in 2018 when she notched a remarkable 103 runs against New Zealand at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Reflecting on her long career, Kaur humorously remarked that she feels “old” as she prepares for India’s season opener against New Zealand Women. “I am someone who doesn’t remember stats a lot, but today, I know I have played in nine World Cups. I have been part of every ICC T20 World Cup. So, yeah, feeling like I am old,” she said in a video shared by the International Cricket Council’s official social media channels.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka Women’s captain Chamari Athapaththu looked back fondly on her T20 World Cup journey while expressing her ambitions. “I have played eight T20 World Cups. I started my first T20 World Cup in 2009; that was my debut. I have played for 10, 12, 15 years, but we’ve still never made the World Cup final. I think this is the right time to do it,” she asserted.

Athapaththu’s optimism is bolstered by her team’s recent success, as they triumphed over India in the Women’s Asia Cup final. Despite facing a challenging target, the Sri Lankan side showcased their prowess by winning by eight wickets with deliveries to spare. As the Player of the Tournament in that competition, Athapaththu is eager to replicate her outstanding form as she leads her team into this new campaign.
