Renowned Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, celebrated for his consistent performances across formats, recently became the subject of discussions around a viral clip featuring cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle. In the clip, Bhogle discusses how Kohli’s role in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team might benefit from him getting dismissed, allowing a player with a better strike rate to take the crease.
However, Bhogle clarified that the clip was taken out of context, emphasizing that Kohli’s case was an extreme example. He explained the complexity of balancing individual greatness with team interests, highlighting that in certain situations, it might be in the team’s best interest for a key player to get out.

“Virat Kohli is a great example. Virat Kohli is playing Test cricket for India, and he isn’t supposed to get out. Now, he goes to play for RCB, for India; beyond a certain point, it might actually have been in the interest of the side for him to get out,” Harsha Bhogle elaborated during the SHRM India Talent Leadership Summit & Expo 2024 in Mumbai.”

He further added, “How do you reconcile to the fact that I am one of the greatest who has played the game but actually at this stage, it’s in the team’s interest that I get out because the person who is coming in will probably hit 20 of 6 balls. Viral Kohli is an extreme example.”
Reacting to the viral clip, Bhogle took to social media, specifically X (formerly Twitter), urging for the full clip to be shared to provide users with the complete context of his remarks. He expressed concern about selectively edited reporting and the potential impact on the articulation of thoughts, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive understanding of the discussion.

“This is an example of what I was talking about with social media. The video is cropped just before the point where I say that Virat is capable of playing across situations but that I was only highlighting how even the greatest players have to keep adjusting demands and priorities,” Harsha Bhogle stated in a tweet, urging news outlets to share the complete clip for a more accurate representation of his comments.
