In various parts of India, Protests have been going on from the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). It was against this backdrop that Australian journalist Dennis Freedman expressed concern about the situation in India. He indirectly criticized India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing that ‘no leader in the world has ever been compared to Hitler.’ However, the voice of cricket, Harsha Bhogle came up with a fitting reply to the same.

Harsha wrote a post on Facebook a few days back in the wake of protests in the country and opposition to the CAA. In his post, he has said that people should listen to the youth protesting on the streets and he also said that we have to listen and refer to old memories. Bhogle also said at the end of this post that it is our destiny that we are Indian.

Based on this post of Harsha, Dennis tweeted that he was worried about the situation in India. Dennis’s tweet read: “I can only applaud Harsha for this. His India is broken. No other country’s leader or ruling party in the world is consistently being compared to Nazis. On this issue, we all need to be Harsha. Except for @GautamGambhir. He has chosen to be a figurehead for the party of division”.

Harsha has responded to Dennis’s remarks by tweeting, “No Dennis, my India isn’t broken. It is full of vibrant young people doing amazing things too. We are a fully functional, mature democracy. We might voice our dissent, our disappointment at times but we are fiercely Indian. That word you used in comparison…..never”.

Harsha Bhogle is not the only one who has commented on the issue from the cricket community, but former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has also expressed his opinion. Pathan had tweeted, “The game of political accusations and counter-allegations will always go on, but I and my country are concerned about the students of Jamia Millia.”

While talking to Indian Express, Irfan Pathan had said, “In the year 2004 when I went with Team India on a tour of Pakistan, I also went to a college in Lahore. Rahul Dravid, Laxmipathy Balaji and Parthiv Patel were also with me. There were 1500 students. A student stood up and asked angrily why do you play for India despite being a Muslim? I replied, I am not doing any favor by playing for India. He is my country and I am proud, honored and lucky to represent India.”
