Renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle has shared his thoughts on the special tribute planned by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans for Virat Kohli during the upcoming clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 17. The tribute comes in the wake of Kohli’s announcement on May 12, declaring his retirement from Test cricket, a move that has left cricket fans across the globe emotional.

To honour Kohli’s legendary red-ball career, RCB supporters have taken to social media, urging fellow fans to wear white jerseys or t-shirts to the stadium. The idea is to symbolically represent Test whites in tribute to the former India captain who inspired an entire generation to fall in love with Test cricket.

Fans expressed their desire to make Kohli feel appreciated for his unmatched passion and contributions to the longest format. One heartfelt fan message read, “Even though I’ll never get to see him play in whites live, I want him to know how deeply loved he was in his favourite format. Wearing whites in the stands would show that his legacy lives on in our hearts.”

The fan also suggested distributing white t-shirts outside the stadium to ensure maximum participation.

Reacting to this emotional initiative, Harsha Bhogle posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Hey @RCBTweets fans, are you planning to turn up in white for the game on the 17th? It will be incredible and a sight for the ages if true and if you can pull it off.”

However, he also offered a practical note of caution. “Only danger is that picking the ball in a white backdrop will become very difficult,” he added.

The match carries high stakes, too. A win for RCB will confirm their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, making them the first team to do so. Currently, they sit second on the table, just behind Gujarat Titans. If the tribute does come together as planned, it could turn Saturday’s encounter into one of the most emotionally charged evenings in IPL history.
