Veteran wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has been recalled in the playing XI for Centurion Test as Wriddhiman Saha couldn’t make a favor for India with his bat. But this selection didn’t go well down to ace Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle, who feels Saha was shouldn’t be dropped unless he has any injury.
During toss, India Captain Virat Kohli mentioned that Saha is having some niggles and team management don’t want to take any risk with him, which forced them to bring Parthiv in the XI.
But Bhogle was stunned with this change in the team and took Twitter to express his disgust. He wrote “Do remember that a wicketkeeper scoring 20-30 more has to be balanced against a missed opportunity than can cost 70-80…… Unless Saha is injured, not even worth contemplating a replacement.”
Bengal wicketkeeper has been India’s first choice in the Test format since Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s departure from the format in December 2014. At the same time, he managed to fill his gloves quite comfortably as he snaffled several great catches behind the stumps.
His best moment while donning the gloves came in Cape Town, where he took 10 catches and broke Dhoni’s record of 9 catches in his last match at Melbourne Cricket Ground against Australia.
