Harshit Rana showcased his growing prowess with the ball as he dismissed the dangerous Travis Head during the second ODI between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, October 23. The breakthrough came at a crucial moment, with Head looking set after scoring 28 runs. A sharp delivery from Rana cramped the left-hander for room, forcing a mistimed flick that flew high toward mid-off, where Virat Kohli made no mistake with a clean, composed catch.

The wicket gave India a much-needed boost in the early stages of Australia’s chase. Earlier in the day, Shubman Gill’s young Indian side posted a fighting total of 264/9 after being sent in to bat. Despite early setbacks with the dismissals of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, seasoned campaigners Rohit Sharma (73) and Shreyas Iyer (61) steadied the innings with a composed 118-run partnership.

Their efforts laid the foundation for India’s lower order to add valuable runs. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh chipped in with crucial contributions in the final overs, ensuring India crossed the 250-run mark — a total that gave their bowlers something to defend on a two-paced Adelaide surface.

Defending the total, Arshdeep Singh provided the first breakthrough for India by removing Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh for just 11 runs. His early strike set the tone before Harshit Rana’s dismissal of Head shifted the momentum further in India’s favour. With both openers back in the pavilion and the pressure mounting, Australia found themselves in a tricky position chasing the competitive target.
