India’s new pace sensation Harshit Rana has attributed his development as a bowler to the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and bowling coach Morne Morkel, who played a crucial role in making an impressive impact in international cricket. As the intensity grew in the current Champions Trophy, India’s team management exhibited great confidence in the young paceman, favouring him above the seasoned campaigner Arshdeep Singh.

Their trust yielded dividends as Harshit produced an outstanding performance amidst pressure. Partnering with experienced pacer Mohammed Shami, Harshit was instrumental in India’s dominating six-wicket win over Bangladesh in Dubai on Thursday.

Along with Mohammed Shami, the hot-headed youngster shared the new ball and struck early, getting Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto out for a duck in just two deliveries. His aggressive and disciplined bowling throughout the innings earned him impressive figures of 3/31 in 7.4 overs, contributing significantly to India’s dominating performance.

Looking back at his quick ascent, Harshit described the lessons he has gained from Jasprit Bumrah after training with him during India’s tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Test series.

“Working with Jassi bhai (Bumrah) has been an incredible learning experience. His wealth of knowledge helps us understand how to bowl across different formats. The most important lesson I’ve taken from him is the importance of consistency,” Harshit Rana said after the match.

The young pacer also credited India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel for refining his technique and improving his accuracy.

“I have gained so much from Morkel sir. He has done a lot of work on my line and length, which has improved my bowling by a long way,” he said.

As India prepares for a high-voltage encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, Harshit is not worried about the pressure and expectations of the game.
