Like most Delhi-born cricketers, Harshit Rana has a natural sense of wit and humour — a quality that shone brightly during a recent fan encounter. At an airport, while paparazzi surrounded him, a young fan approached Rana and grabbed his hand to pose for a selfie. Without missing a beat, Rana joked, “Arrey, arrey, main girlfriend hoon kya aapki?” (Oh, am I your girlfriend or what?).

The unexpected remark sent everyone around bursting into laughter, while the fan, visibly embarrassed, quickly pulled his hand back. Still, Rana sportingly smiled for the picture, showing his calm and playful personality even in awkward moments.

The clip of this light-hearted exchange soon went viral on social media, drawing amused reactions from fans who praised Rana’s spontaneous humour. The young pacer’s relaxed attitude reflects a cricketer comfortable with both fame and fan interactions — something not every player handles with such ease.

Interestingly, as Rana mentioned in the video, his next stop is Australia, where he’s been selected in both the ODI and T20I squads. It’s a big leap for the 23-year-old pacer, whose rise has been closely linked with Gautam Gambhir, under whom he played at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Many credit Gambhir for nurturing Rana’s talent and attitude, but the association has also sparked debates among experts and fans.

Former India selector Kris Srikkanth recently voiced his criticism of the selection choices involving Rana. “By making such selections constantly, they’re confusing players. Suddenly, one player is in, another is out. The only constant seems to be Harshit Rana. Nobody knows why he’s always there,” Srikkanth remarked in a YouTube video.

He further added, “If the selection continues this way, it could dent players’ confidence. Being a yes-man to Gambhir shouldn’t be the criteria for selection. You need to build for the 2027 World Cup — not rely on favoritism.”

Regardless of the noise around him, Harshit Rana’s confidence, both on and off the field, continues to make him one of the most intriguing young names in Indian cricket today.
