Star Team India batter Devdutt Padikkal applauded Rishabh Pant as someone who can win matches on his own with the bat in hand. He also stated that Pant’s batting is something that can be watched every day of the week as well. Pant top-scored with 66 off 69 in India’s second innings as India were bowled out for 193 in 48.5 overs on Day 4 of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, August 18.

Speaking at the post-day press conference, Padikkal said (via Revsportz): “It’s great entertainment. He is one of those batters who you love to watch every day of the week, and he produces moments like he did today. He really took the game to them and put them under a lot of pressure. He can win games on his own. Batting with KL, it’s always been enjoyable. I think we play well with each other; it’s a good partnership that we have. He understands the way I bat, the tempo in which I bat, and I do the same as well. When you have that kind of chemistry, it helps in stitching that partnership and really pushing the limits.”

Defending a target of 372, Indian bowlers got off to a great start, leaving Sri Lanka struggling at 47-4 before captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha offered some resistance. While talking about the pitch, Padikkal said that the ball is now starting to turn from the stumps, which helped them.

“In Galle, you expect from the third day onwards for the game to quicken up a little bit. Initially, it was turning probably from fourth, fifth stump, and now it’s starting to turn from the stumps as well. For us, trying to get 10 wickets, that’s a really good sign,” he concluded.
