Although India have lost the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) under Virat Kohli, there should not be any doubt over his calibre. He even became the most successful Test captain of India surpassing the greatest captains like Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. However, in a recent conversation with Forbes India, KL Rahul has said what distinguishes Kohli from others.

“Playing with and under Virat Kohli, he is a different sort of captain. He is a very passionate individual. He operates at 200. 100 is the best you possibly can be at, but he operates at 200. He has the unbelievable ability to carry the other 10 guys and pull them from 100 to 200,” Rahul said.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has tasted a fair share of success over the years. He has 33 Test wins in his name, 65 ODI wins in 95 matches played, and 27 T20Is from 45 matches as well. In fact, he led the team to its first victory Down Under in 2019, in 71 years as well.

However, India will now play a five-match Test series against England in August. And, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is currently working on the COVID-19 protocols to host a warm-up game for the Indian team against the ‘Combined Counties’ side in the third week of July as a preparation for the first Test in Nottingham which will start from August 4.

“We are aware of a request from the BCCI to play a three-day warm-up match against a County Select XI as part of the Indian Men’s Test teams build-up to the five-match LV= Insurance Test series,” an ECB spokesperson told PTI. “We are working through the operations and COVID-19 protocols to ensure we are able to deliver this and will confirm in due course.”

However, KL Rahul has also applauded MS Dhoni.

“The minute anyone says ‘captain’, the first name that comes into anybody’s mind from our generation, our era, will be MS Dhoni,” said KL Rahul. The latter went on to say that any player who has played under Dhoni will willingly take a bullet for him. “We have all played a lot of cricket under him. Yes, he has won a lot of big tournaments and done so many amazing things for the country but the biggest achievement any captain can have is have the respect of your teammates and any of us will happily take a bullet for him without a second thought. One thing I have learnt from him is how humble he has been through ups and down; how he has always put his country over everything else is just unbelievable,” KL Rahul concluded.
