Former India cricketer turned commentator Deep Dasgupta made a huge statement on star India batter Sanju Samson amid the T20I series against New Zealand. However, Team India have already sealed the five-match series 3-0. Deep Dasgupta also added that Sanju Samson must be given more chances despite having failed in the first three T20Is against New Zealand so far.

“As of now, I would say yes he has not gotten runs. But this is a high risk high reward format and his cricket is like that. So I think he should be given more chances. I don’t think Tilak will be available for this series so give him a few games and see how it goes. And mental space is very important. We can talk about it but cant see him from inside. We know what he can do. I hope he does not get into a pattern and fall into that. At least this series, 100% he should be given the next two without a shadow of thought,” he said on ‘Backstage with Boria’.

“Obviously, Ishan will play the next two games. You have to take a call during the warm-up games or that week that you have between the series and start of the World Cup. See where Sanju is, whether he scores, how he is mentally and then take a call, provided Tilak is back and available,” he again added.

However, Deep Dasgupta also opined on Team India’s top four batters at the T20 World Cup 2026. If Ishan Kishan opens the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma, considering Samson’s form and Tilak Varma returning, he also questioned who would bat at number three as well.
“Another question is who bats at three if Ishan does open? Do you want Tilak at three or Surya comes in at three, because he has batted beautifully. If two left-handers open, then Surya comes in at three and Tilak at four,” Deep Dasgupta concluded.
