Former Indian player Sadagoppan Ramesh believes India batter Suryakumar Yadav must captain an IPL side, given his incredible captaincy qualities. The veteran led India to T20 World Cup glory earlier in the year and has a stunning record as India’s T20I captain. Under Surya, India won 40 of their 52 T20Is, with only eight losses, including series wins in South Africa and Australia as well. India also won the Asia Cup last year under him.

Praising Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy skills, Sadagoppan Ramesh said on his Instagram handle: “Surya really shone as a player’s captain. In my opinion, Surya should definitely captain a side in the IPL. MI will be well-served if they make Surya the captain.”

Sadagoppan Ramesh further lauded Suryakumar Yadav as captain, stating his recent comments about his interaction with Sanju Samson during the 2026 T20 World Cup. Samson was in and out of the playing XI due to his poor form for the first half of the tournament. In a recent interview, Suryakumar spoke about how Samson accepted being dropped and urged him to focus on the best combination for the team as well.

“Suryakumar Yadav spoke about how Samson’s response to being dropped during the T20 World Cup impressed him. At that moment, Surya shone as a captain and Sanju as a team player. Many captains won’t communicate with the player about their exclusion, but Surya made the effort,” Sadagoppan Ramesh concluded.
