Former Team India batter S Badrinath advised former India player Dinesh Karthik not to take up the head coaching role with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Recently, former CSK opener Matthew Hayden said that the franchise should appoint Karthik as their next head coach as well. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) over the last two years, winning the title in back-to-back years. Meanwhile, CSK parted ways with long-time head coach Stephen Fleming after a poor IPL 2026 campaign.

Talking about Karthik as CSK’s potential head coach on his YouTube channel, S Badrinath stated, “If I were Dinesh Karthik, I would think twice about coming to CSK. He will probably think long and hard, but I think he should stay with RCB. He’s in a good space with RCB. Everything has aligned perfectly there, and all the players are at their peak in RCB. They are in the space where CSK were in the first eight to ten years of the IPL.”

“A coach can only do so much and is limited in the impact he can make on a team. The players on the field are the most important, and that is already present at RCB. On the other hand, CSK will have almost the same players for one more year in this cycle. For this reason, DK should stay with RCB,” he again shared.

However, S Badrinath also believes RCB will be unwilling to let go of Dinesh Karthik in his current role as they look to win the title once again in IPL 2027 as well.

“Yes, the CSK role would be more challenging, and life is all about taking up challenges. But DK has already taken up a challenge as he helped build RCB from a tough situation. Now is the time for him to reap the benefits of that. So why would he leave now to take up another challenge? Also, RCB will do whatever it can to keep Dinesh Karthik. I don’t think they’ll let him go easily,” concluded S Badrinath.
