David Warner had a torrid time with SRH during the IPL 2021. He was sacked from the captaincy midway in the tournament before being eventually dropped from the playing XI.

However, he put the bad phase behind him during the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE. He scored 289 runs in seven matches and was named the player of the tournament for leading Australia to the maiden T20 World Cup crown.

Tom Moody said Warner was dropped from the playing XI after they were out of the playoff race in the IPL 2021.

“For David Warner obviously, he has been an iconic T20 player. But it is unfair to recognize people like Warner only in this format. He is just a champion player. His situation leading to this World Cup was a little bit disappointing. He was left out of the Sunrisers team.

“But a lot of that was to do with the fact that the Sunrisers had got to a point from where they couldn’t qualify. So, it was a case to look at the likes of Jason Roy and the young players that were in the squad. And give them the opportunity. So, we can as a franchise look forward to seeing what it looks like moving into 2022,” Moody said in an interaction with ESPNcricinfo.

Australia won the T20 World Cup 2021 final by defeating New Zealand by eight wickets. Warner scored a match-defining fifty in the final. Tom Moody was happy with Australia’s performance in the tournament.

“World Cups are prized trophies to have. The Australians have dominated the 50 over World Cup but they never really cracked this one. So, to win this World Cup, David Warner and the team, captain Aaron Finch will be very very happy with this result,” he added.
