In the seventh match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, the Guyana Amazon Warriors squared off against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park in St. Kitts. The Guyana-based team secured a commanding 41-run victory, but the match was also notable for a fiery on-field confrontation between two prominent players.
The Warriors set a formidable target, amassing 266 runs in their 20 overs. Shimron Hetmyer was the star of the innings, delivering a blistering 91 off just 39 balls, which included 11 sixes. His explosive performance was complemented by Rahmanullah Gurbaz from Afghanistan, who contributed a powerful 69 runs with six maximums and four boundaries.

Their dynamic partnership ensured that the Patriots were put under significant pressure from the outset. In response, the Patriots began their chase with resolve. Despite an early dismissal of Evin Lewis, captain Andre Fletcher and Sherfane Rutherford managed to build a strong partnership and keep the chase alive.
However, The match took a dramatic turn in the eighth over when Keemo Paul, visibly frustrated with Fletcher’s aggressive play, attempted to obstruct his running path. This action led to a heated exchange between Paul and Fletcher, escalating into a verbal altercation that required intervention from teammates and umpires to diffuse.

Despite the tension, the Patriots continued their fightback, but regular losses of wickets in the middle overs derailed their chase. They were eventually bowled out for 226 in the 18th over, falling short by 41 runs.

With this victory, the Imran Tahir-led Guyana Amazon Warriors have now won both of their matches and hold a strong position in the standings. Conversely, the Patriots’ campaign has been underwhelming, with only one win out of four games, reflecting a challenging start to their tournament.
