Klaasen made his international debut in an ODI against India at Cape Town in 2018. From then on, he became a vital part of South Africa’s white-ball setup, known for his fearless strokeplay, ability to dominate spin, and calm demeanor under pressure. In his post, Klaasen described wearing the Proteas jersey as the “biggest privilege” of his life and something he had dreamt of since childhood.

Klaasen ends his international career with impressive numbers: 2,141 runs in 60 ODIs at an average of 43.69 and 1,000 runs in 58 T20Is. Though his red-ball career never quite took off—managing only 104 runs from four Test appearances—his impact in the shorter formats was significant.

Outside the international arena, Klaasen has become a standout performer in global franchise leagues. Most recently, he was a key part of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s IPL 2025 campaign, scoring 487 runs in 14 matches, including a century. His performances earned him a hefty INR 23 crore retention by SRH, showcasing his continuing value in the T20 circuit.

While his chapter with South Africa ends, Klaasen’s T20 journey is far from over.
