India’s batter Suryakumar Yadav once again faltered under pressure in a crucial match, failing to deliver in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa. The highly anticipated summit clash is taking place at the historic Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Winning the toss, India elected to bat first and started strong with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma hitting a series of boundaries.
However, South Africa mounted a swift comeback, led by left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj. Maharaj’s twin strikes in the second over, dismissing both Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, put India on the backfoot early in the innings.
With Rishabh Pant out for a duck, Suryakumar Yadav walked into bat at number four, carrying the expectations of setting the stage ablaze. Unfortunately, he failed to live up to the hopes of the Indian fans. Yadav struggled to find his rhythm and was dismissed for a low score, adding to India’s woes as they found themselves reeling at 34/3 in the high-pressure game.

Yadav’s dismissal came in the fifth over, bowled by Kagiso Rabada. Facing a length delivery on off-stump, Yadav attempted to pull it towards deep backward square leg. He failed to get a proper hold of the shot, and the ball floated into the wind, descending into the hands of Heinrich Klaasen. Klaasen, stationed in the deep, ran to his left, tumbled, and took a low catch, sending Yadav back to the pavilion. The South African team, along with Rabada, celebrated the crucial wicket with evident delight.

This dismissal left the Indian team under immense pressure as South Africa capitalized on their early breakthroughs. Yadav managed to score only 3 runs off 4 balls and looked uncomfortable throughout his brief stay at the crease. He had already survived a close call earlier in his innings, which further highlighted his struggles.
