Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir opined on the franchise’s storied rivalry with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), having experienced it during his stint as captain as well. And, Gambhir said that RCB have underachieved considering the talent they have had in the squad throughout the years, and their attitude often irked him as well.

“One team which I wanted to beat every time, probably even in my dreams, was RCB. Probably the second most high-profile team, flamboyant team with the owner and with the squad – Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers. Honestly, not won anything, still thought that they won everything, that kind of attitude and I can’t take that,” Gautam Gambhir told Star Sports.

However, Gautam Gambhir also has a good record against RCB with the bat, scoring 647 runs in 20 innings at an average of 32.35 and a strike rate of 134.51 as well.

“The three best wins that KKR have ever had in IPL have all been against RCB. The first time was the very first game of the IPL, Brendon McCullum against RCB, then 49 all out against RCB, and six overs 100, probably the only time in IPL where in the first six overs, 100 runs were scored. One thing I would love to have is again go on the cricket field and beat RCB,” Gambhir further added.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli had an on-field fight last year during a game between RCB vs LSG. However, this year they embraced each other and that made headlines. And, reacting to the incident, Ravi Shastri said on air that they deserve a Fair Play award.
Sunil Gavaskar, who was also in the commentary box, hilariously suggested that Kohli and Gambhir should also be given an Oscar
award for the embrace as well.

“Not only a Fair Play award, they should be given an Oscar,” he said. “You tell me how much Kohli will do alone? Someone should accompany him, If someone had supported him today, he would definitely have scored 120 instead of 83, so this is team sport not a single man game, he didn’t get any support today.”
