Ahmedabad is preparing to host a historic night as India and New Zealand meet in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday. It will be the second time in a year that the two sides contest the final of a major ICC white-ball tournament. They previously faced each other in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai in March last year.

The outcome of the match will mark a significant milestone for either team. If India win, they will become the first side to successfully defend a men’s T20 World Cup title. It would also be their third triumph in the tournament – more than any other team – and the first by any team on home soil.

New Zealand, meanwhile, are chasing their maiden T20 World Cup title. Their best finish came in 2022, when they finished runners-up to the Australia. Anticipation around the final has led to a sharp rise in hotel prices across Ahmedabad. According to The Times of India, room rates have surged in the days following India’s semi-final victory over former champions England.

Budget hotel rooms in some parts of the city are reportedly being quoted at around ₹15,000 per night, while premium properties are charging between Rs 56,000 and Rs 80,000 for a one-night stay.

“Currently, room rates are ₹15,000 to ₹80,000 and can cross ₹1 lakh because more demand is coming in with people getting tickets. March generally remains slow, but the World Cup final helped hotels achieve the average for the month,” Narendra Somani, president of the Gujarat Hotels and Restaurants Association, told the publication.

Sanjeev Chhajer, chairman of the travel and tourism taskforce at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the surge in interest around the final has created a major opportunity for the city’s hospitality sector.

“The city is going to witness significant business activity in hotels, restaurants, tourism and transportation. Restaurants and the handloom and handicrafts segment are also expected to benefit,” Chhajer said. Hotels in the city are reportedly operating at around 80 per cent occupancy. With limited availability of rooms, prices have continued to rise, and several hotels have reportedly removed cancellation options for the weekend.
