Australia batting star Travis Head said that he did not let the selection snub affect him. However, his comments came as he was dropped for the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and now he is in a good head space ahead of the last two Tests of the series in India. Head said that he was surprised by the axing from the XI for the series opener in Nagpur as well.

“It was something that I didn’t expect coming here. The conversations were robust. Everyone has different opinions. I respect the coaching staff and selectors and I have a strong relationship with them,” Head spoke of his non-selection in the Delhi Test on Saturday. I think that’s what made the conversations the way they went, because there’s respect that goes both ways and we were able to voice our opinions. I woke up the next morning and I’m still on tour playing for Australia, I still get to do what I love to do. I’d love to be competing and playing but there’s another way I can support the guys… I still feel like I’m in a great space,” Travis Head added.

Travis Head again said that he is open to batting anywhere in the batting line-up even as the opening spot seems to be free in the absence of Warner, who returned home after an injury scare. The 3rd Test between India and Australia will begin on March 1 in Indore.

“It was a small sample piece, but over here small sample pieces can be a little bit of gold to hopefully push on for the next two tests,” Travis Head said. “After missing out in the first Test, I’d bat anywhere that the team needed me to get a game.”
