Star India opener Sanju Samson silenced critics with a quick 82 in the second T20I against the West Indies on Friday in Ranchi. His knock helped India post an imposing total of 249 before he showed his unwavering commitment to selfless, high-risk cricket.

Speaking after the innings, Samson said via Cricbuzz, “Nothing. I don’t think so. Being a professional cricketer playing for India, you definitely take care of the professional side of it. You do your preparation, your practice, your training, you do everything possible in your hands. But in this format, the result is not in your hands.”

“You can’t say, ‘I’ve had bad three innings, so let’s take some time, let’s build my innings and then we will see.’ No, there is only one way to go,” he said again. “The team is in front. My job is to just give a great start for my country, and I try to do that. I take the responsibility when I get out also. That’s totally fine, and I’m taking the blame on me. I don’t blame anyone else to not score runs.”

Sanju Samson also added that conditions offered early challenges, with the pitch skidding and keeping low, but an instinctive approach carried him through as well.
“I just try to look at the ball and have a very positive frame of mind,” Samson added. “If the ball is in my area, I definitely go for it. I don’t like to get premeditated. I just like to be blunt, watch the ball, and back my instincts. Well, it’s a brilliant score, to be very honest, but as you know, the West Indian batters, they’re very strong, and they can definitely put on a show. So we need to be switched on, and I think powerplay plays a huge role in these kind of games, actually. So the powerplay is really important for us,” he concluded.
