Former India player turned commentator Aakash Chopra admitted he is unsure whether star India player Ruturaj Gaikwad’s return to the ODI setup can be classified as a ‘comeback’ or not as well. He also earned a recall for the upcoming ODI series
against the West Indies amid vice-captain Shreyas Iyer’s absence as well. Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad was not added to the recent ODI assignments against New Zealand, Afghanistan and England.

“It is a three-match ODI series. There should be no questions or doubts regarding Rohit Sharma now, so he is in the team. There is, of course, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill is the captain of the squad. Ruturaj Gaikwad is part of this team. Sometimes I don’t know whether he is making a comeback or not, because you don’t play him. The last time he played he had made a 100, and you dropped him,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Since several main players will be busy with the Asian Games 2026 campaign, it has left room in the ODI squad for the return of a few players like Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj as well. Both players last played in the home ODI series against New Zealand at the start of the year, and have only played red-ball cricket for India since then.

“Ishan Kishan is not a part of the ODI team because he will be playing T20I at the Asian Games. There are so many teams that are actually overlapping. Another big news is that Ravindra Jadeja returns, and that means he is still in the scheme of things. Of course, Axar Patel is not a part of this team; he is part of the Asian Games team. So Ravindra Jadeja’s inclusion is actually good news,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
