Former Gujarat Titans coach Gary Kirsten praised new India Test captain Shubman Gill and said that he is primed to take the international stage by storm. However, Gill is all set for his first assignment as the new captain of the Test team, and he will play as the No.4 batter for the team after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as well.

However, Shubman Gill did a great job as captain of the GT side that reached the playoffs of the IPL 2025, and he has been involved in the leadership group of the white-ball teams as the vice-captain also. Kirsten worked with Gill during their time together at GT and lauded him by saying he is a great leader. He also said that Gill has a good cricket brain and understands the game well.

“I think Shubman is going to be a great leader. He’s a smart cricketer—he’s got a good brain for the game and understands his game. He’s very talented and a nice human being, which I think is really important. When you come into these leadership positions, you’re going to be put under pressure, and your leadership will be tested. For any young leader, your ability to learn how to lead, improve, and grow is constantly under scrutiny. But I believe he has all the raw materials to become a really good leader,” said Kirsten.

Gary Kirsten also said that Shubman Gill walks the talk and sets an example for other players by being organised and diligent with his training and preparation as well.

“The one thing I really like about Shubman is that he walks the talk. He’s very organised, very diligent with his training and preparation, and that sets a great example for other players. I think he’s primed to take on the international stage by storm,” Gary Kirsten concluded.

The first Test between England and India will begin on Friday, June 20.
