ICC Imposes Fine and Point Deduction On Pakistan Team After Perth Test Defeat

The ICC has penalized the Pakistan cricket team following their defeat to Australia in the first Test in Perth. In addition to losing the match by 360 runs, the entire team has been fined 10% of their match fees and suffered a two-point deduction in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table due to a slow over-rate.

According to the ICC statement, players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, as per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Additionally, Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions imposes a one-point penalty for each over short.

As a result, two World Test Championship points have been deducted from Pakistan’s total points. Before the series against Australia, Pakistan held the top spot on the points table with a points percentage of 100. However, after the defeat in the first Test, their points percentage has dropped to 66.67.

 

With the deduction of two points, their total points now stand at 22 from three matches, and the points percentage has further reduced to 61.1. Despite the setback, Pakistan remains in the second position on the table, but India has now surpassed them with a higher points percentage of 66.67.

Pakistan faces Australia in two more Test matches in Melbourne and Sydney, aiming to secure at least one victory to improve their standing. The team’s qualification for the WTC final could be at risk if they fail to achieve positive results in the upcoming matches.
