The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently questioned the Pakistan international cricketer Umar Akmal regarding his claim of match-fixing approaches.

Umar Akmal

In the last June, the 28-year-old Pakistan cricketer revealed during an interview to SAMAA TV that he has received match-fixing offers in multiple times, including against India in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

In that interview, Umar Akmal said, “I was once offered $200,000 for leaving two deliveries. I was also offered to skip matches against India. It was our first match against India in the 2015 World Cup… in fact, every match I play against India, they offer me money to make some excuse and opt out of the game. But I have told those people that I am very sincere about playing for Pakistan and to not talk to me on this topic ever again.”

Talking about the 2015 CWC match between India and Pakistan, it was the Pool B game at Adelaide and it was also the opening game for both teams in that tournament. India won that game by 76 runs after they put a total of 300/7 on the board, thanks to Virat Kohli’s (107) brilliant century.

Pakistan was outplayed in the second innings who were bundled out for just 224 runs. Playing the game as a wicketkeeper-batsman, Umar lost his wicket without opening his account after facing just four balls. In a delivery from the Indian left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, Umar was caught behind by the Indian skipper and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.
