The fixtures of ICC World T20 Europe Qualifier have been announced recently. While a total of 18 European region members will participate in this tournament, it will be hosted by the Netherlands from August 29 to September 3, 2018.
It will be the first step for the European region members to fulfil their dreams to qualify for the 2020 ICC World T20 that will be hosted in Australia from October 18 to November 15, 2020.
Total eighteen teams will participate in this year’s ICC World T20 Europe Qualifier which has been equally divided into three groups. Each group contains six teams and the tournament will be played by the single round-robin system.
Each team will meet against all other teams in their groups for once. At the end of the group stages, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the next year’s ICC World T20 Europe Final.
In the 2018 ICC World T20 Europe Qualifier, Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany and Portugal are in the Group A. Meanwhile, Belgium, Finland, Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey and Spain will fight in the Group B while the other six teams – Czech Republic, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Israel, Norway and Sweden will fight in the Group C.
The Group A matches will be played at the two Salland CC grounds in Deventer city and one Kampong CC ground in Utrecht city. In the meantime, the Group B and Group C matches will be played at VCC (in Voorburg city), VRA (in Amsterdam city), VOC (in Rotterdam city) and Excelsior ’20 (in Schiedam city).
While all the men’s associate members will gain the T20I status from January 1, 2019, this Europe Qualifier will be played as T20 games. All the regional finals will be played as T20I because those tournaments will be played in 2019.
Total six teams will qualify for the 2019 ICC World T20 Europe Final. From that tournament, only one team will qualify for the 2020 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier where total 14 teams will fight for the last six spots of 2020 ICC World T20 tournament.
