The young and talented opener of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Shubman Gill has come under the scanner after his poor show with the bat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). So far, he has managed to score 132 runs at an average of 18.85 and a strike rate of 117.85. And, seeing this, former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has shared that he needs to get busy in the middle.

Also, Gill has been failing to clear the fence many times which also cost them the game. He has scored 14 fours and five sixes this year. Pietersen added that Gill cannot afford to be lazy as well.
“Let’s talk a little bit about Shubman Gill because I think that guy is so good. I absolutely love him as a player. I’ve been watching him quite closely recently and I think Gill needs to get a little busy at the crease. If he can do that, he can then get himself going. He just seems so lazy,” Pietersen was quoted as saying to Star Sports.
“Some of his dismissals are really low and it looks like he doesn’t really fit the speed of the game. You can get very lazy and I think he’s too lazy at the moment. He’s too accommodating. I’d just like him to get a little bit busier and more proactive. Then he won’t miss those balls on his legs and start hitting them. I want to see purpose when he bats,” he again shared.

Notably, Shubman Gill has had a stunning start to his Test career where he had played a crucial role in India’s 2-1 victory over Australia. In the seven Tests he has played so far, he has three fifties in his name with a top score of 91 as well.

As far as KKR’s recent campaign is concerned, they have lost another game against Delhi Capitals in their last match. After the defeat, Eoin Morgan said: “Very disappointed. We were slow off the blocks with the bat, lost wickets in the middle period and Russell got us to 150-plus. Then got slow off the blocks with the ball. Shaw played brilliantly, nothing much we could do. Also shows how good the surface was. We weren’t good enough with all departments. He (Cummins) is part of our new ball plans.

Mavi bowled four on the trot last game and bowled well. Just didn’t go to plan today. You need to be honest and realistic with everyone in the dressing room. We have to be as honest as we can with each other. Hopefully, we can turn things around. There is a huge amount of talent in our squad but talent alone doesn’t get you far. It’s about execution.”
