Before being sidelined by injuries and poor form, Irfan Pathan had become an integral part of the Indian team. He was seen as the perfect candidate for India’s ‘much-awaited’ fast bowling all-rounder.

One his brilliant performances with the bat came during India’s tour of Pakistan in 2006. In the first ODI at Peshawar, Pathan came in to bat at No. 3 and scored an impressive half-century. Inzamam-ul-Haq, the then Pakistani captain, had won the toss and chose to field.

India lost Virender Sehwag (5) in the second over, but, that did not affect their morale as Sachin Tendulkar and Pathan stitched a 94-run partnership in quick succession. Pathan scored an awe-inspiring 65 (65), including 12 fours and a six. On the other hand, Tendulkar went on to score his 39th ODI century, 100 (113), with the help of 10 fours and a six.

India ended up scoring 328-10 in 49.4 overs. With bowling figures of 10-0-62-4, Naved-ul-Hasan was the pick of the Pakistani bowlers.

Salman Butt scored his third ODI century, 101 (111), with the help of 15 fours, which costed India the match. Watch the full video of Pathan’s innings:
