During the first ODI of the Rothmans Cup in 1985 at Sharjah, Imran Khan created havoc against the Indian batting line-up as he picked up his maiden ODI five-wicket haul and career-best figures of 10-2-14-6.
Javed Miandad, the then Pakistani captain, had won the toss and chose to field first. Imran’s efforts made sure that India do not post a substantial target. India ended up scoring 125-10 in 42.4 overs. Mohammad Azharuddin was the highest run-scorer for India as he scored 47 (93) with the help of three fours.
In what an awe-inspiring Indian victory by 38 runs, Pakistan ended up scoring 87-10 in 32.5 overs. With bowling figures of 6.5-1-17-3, Kapil Dev was the pick of the Indian bowlers. Laxman Sivaramakrishnan and Ravi Shastri had also chipped in with a couple of wickets each.
