In the ongoing season of the Caribbean Premier League, CPL 2024, experienced leg-spinner Imran Tahir figured in the headlines not just for his cricketing skills but also for merging a footballing twist with his performance. As he led Guyana Amazon Warriors to a no-mean win, Tahir also hailed football star Cristiano Ronaldo by returning the iconic “Siuuu” celebration.

The seventh game between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park in St. Kitts was an electrifying encounter. The Warriors posted a challenging target: 266/7 in their 20 overs, with spirited innings of 69 off 37 balls by Rahamanullah Gurbaz being backed up by the feisty 91 off 39 balls by Shimron Hetmyer.

Yet, Imran Tahir’s game in the middle overs proved to be the highlight of the Patriots’ chase. The 45-year-old acquired three significant wickets but gave away 48 runs in his four-over spell. The main highlight was a crucial double-wicket maiden by him. He started the ninth over with the second ball, dismissing Josh Clarkson and bringing a change in momentum.

Thrilled by the breakthrough, Imran Tahir celebrated it with Ronaldo’s famous “Siuuu” move, sending fans into raptures. Imran Tahir had shared a reason for this strange celebration quite some time ago. He said that the “Siuuu” was out of character for him since he usually celebrated with his characteristic dash around the field.

However, his son’s admiration for Ronaldo motivated him to take up the footballer’s iconic celebration. “He is a big fan of Ronaldo, and he wants me to do it. I have been doing this for him, and it’s just something not natural for me,” Imran Tahir explained to the Daily Star.

Eventually, Guyana Amazon Warriors won the game with 40 runs. Even though the Patriots got off to a blinder, they eventually fell short of the huge target, bowled out for 226 in the 18th over. Effective bowling and spirited celebration made Tahir’s combination, as his team emerged victorious in the end.
