Indian skipper Virat Kohli hits his second consecutive ODI century as his unbeaten 157 runs knock helped India to put a good total of 321/6 (50 overs) on the board in the first innings of the second ODI against Windies at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium (Visakhapatnam).

In the ongoing day/night ODI, the Indian skipper Kohli decided to bat first after winning the toss. The in-form Indian opener Rohit Sharma lost his wicket on just 4 runs, while another in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan fell for 29 runs.

While both the openers were dismissed under the first powerplay, Kohli and Rayudu took the charge to control and shape the innings. They had an important third-wicket partnership of 139 runs that led the side towards the good total.

At first, Kohli completed his half-century in 56 balls and then Rayudu hit his ninth ODI half-century 61 balls. Both carried their innings for further but Rayudu was finally restricted on 73 runs off 80 balls (8 fours) after the off-spinner Ashley Nurse bowled him.

However, Kohli continued his innings and completed his 37th ODI century in 106 balls. The middle-order batsmen – MS Dhoni (20), Rishabh Pant (17) and Ravindra Jadeja (13) provided some help in the end, but Kohli continued his leadership batting till the end as he remained unbeaten on 157 runs off 129 balls (13 fours and 4 sixes). These innings helped the Indian team to put 321/6 on the board at the end of 50 overs.

Among the Windies bowlers, the 21-year-old international cricket debutant left-arm pacer Obed McCoy (2/46) and the off-spinner Ashley Nurse (2/71) took two wickets each. Also, Kemar Roach (1/67) and Marlon Samuels (1/36) took one wicket each.

  • Playing his 78th home ODI innings, Indian skipper Virat Kohli completed his 4,000 ODI runs in the home. Kohli becomes the fastest batsman to complete 4,000 ODI runs in the home as AB de Villiers (South African) was the former record holder who had achieved this feat in 91 home ODI innings.
  • Playing his 205th ODI innings, Virat Kohli becomes the fastest batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs. The previous record holder was the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar who had achieved that feat in 259 ODI innings.
  • Virat Kohli becomes the fourth batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs for Indian cricket team. The three other Indian batsmen were Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs), Sourav Ganguly (11,221 runs) and Rahul Dravid (10,768 runs).
  • Indian skipper Virat Kohli played an unbeaten 157-run knock. It is the third highest knock by an ODI captain against Windies. The top two record holders are Virender Sehwag (India) with 219 runs knock and AB de Villiers (South Africa) with 162* runs knock.
  • Also, Kohli’s unbeaten 157-run knock is the second highest ODI knock by an Indian batsman against Windies. The record is 219 runs knock by Virender Sehwag at Indore on December 8, 2011.
  • Virat Kohli (1,046 runs) also completed his 1,000 ODI runs in 2018. After English batsman Jonny Bairstow (1,025 runs), Kohli becomes the second batsman to achieve this feat in 2018.
  • Playing only 11th ODI match in 2018, Kohli completed his 1,000 ODI runs in this year. It is the fastest 1,000 ODI runs scored by a batsman in a calendar year. The previous record to achieve this feat was in 15 ODI innings by Hashim Amla in 2010 (South Africa) and Virat Kohli in 2012 (India).
  • First captain to score multiple times 1,000 runs in both Test and ODI formats in the same calendar year. Before 2018, Kohli achieved this feat for the first time in 2017.
  • At the end of the innings, Virat Kohli has scored 1,684 ODI runs against Windies. Kohli is now the leading run-scorer in ODI cricket for India against Windies as he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s 1,573 ODI runs against West Indies. In overall, Kohli is now the third leading ODI runs scorer against Windies.
  • India scored 321/6 in 50 overs. It is the fifth-highest first innings ODI total for India against Windies on the Indian soil.
