On Monday, during BCCI’s SGM, it has been confirmed that India will be hosting the 2023 World Cup, which will be the 13th edition of the global cricketing event. India will also host the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2021.
The allotment of the same was done back in June 2013 itself, with India receiving the hosting rights of the World T20 in 2016. This will be the first time that the event will be completely held in India: the nation has, on three occasions earlier, hosted the World Cup partially (1987, 1996 and 2011).
As has been the case in the previous World Cups, the tournament is set to feature 10 teams, with two sides qualifying from the 2022 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. The last time in 2011 when India hosted teh mega event, they also went on to win it, which was their second World Cup triumph in ODIs after the 1983 win under the leadership of Kapil Dev.

However, in 2011, it was under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, the side defeated Sri Lanka in the finals by six wickets to win the ICC tournament at Mumbai, becoming the first team to win the World Cup final on home soil.
Apart from the announcement of hosting the World Cup, several other points were discussed in the meeting: the noticeable ones being India’s FTP from 2019 to 2023, with the team set to play 81 games at home. The new FTP is mainly going to include more matches from South Africa, England, and Australia.
