India Need To Take A Call Within June 28 About T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) time till June 28 to decide whether it would host the mega event of the upcoming T20 World Cup in the country amid the crunch time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notably, the ICC Board has met virtually on Tuesday where the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah represented the BCCI as well and the talks took place regarding the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in October-November this year.

Earlier in its Special General Meeting on May 29, the board had decided to ask for more time from the International Cricket Council (ICC) before they decide anything about hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India later this year considering the current coronavirus situation in the country.

And, as reported by PTI, the BCCI asked for a month’s time and the ICC unanimously agreed to that for a detailed assessment of the health situation in India as the country has been battling by the second wave of the global pandemic.

“Yes, the ICC board has agreed to BCCI’s request and they will have time till June 28 to decide on hosting the T20 World Cup in India. They will come back to the board next month with a concrete plan,” a source close to the ICC Board told PTI on Tuesday.

However, the ICC has further added that the BCCI will retain the hosting rights of the marquee event regardless of where the event is played – be it in India or in the UAE.

“The ICC board has requested management focus its planning efforts for the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2021 on the event being staged in the UAE with the possibility of including another venue in the Middle East,” the statement said. “A final decision on the host country will be taken later this month. The Board also confirmed that the BCCI will remain the hosts of the event regardless of where the event is played.”
