The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may have to make separate accommodation arrangements for its cricket teams if it decides against using the hotels allocated by the organisers for the Asian Games 2026 in Japan. According to a Times of India report, the Indian men’s team has been assigned a three-star APA Hotel Nagoya Ekimae. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has reportedly made it clear that it will not seek separate accommodation for India’s cricket teams, maintaining that all sports and athletes must be treated equally.
If the BCCI chooses to house its players outside the designated Asian Games hotels, the cricket board will have to take responsibility for their accommodation, food and transportation. IOA CEO Raghuram Iyer revealed that BCCI CEO Hemang Amin had already contacted the association regarding the matter. The BCCI is reportedly considering sending an advance team to Japan to inspect the facilities before making a final decision.
“BCCI CEO Hemang Amin got in touch with us (IOA), and we had a fruitful discussion. They are contemplating sending an advance team to Japan to assess the facilities. The IOA is completely fine with that. Based on their assessment, they can decide whether they want to use the organizers’ facilities or make their own arrangements,” Iyer told TOI. “It is for the BCCI and the organizers to work out the best solution. All sports, athletes, coaches and the entire delegation are treated equally by IOA,” he added.

The Indian men’s cricket team has been allocated a three-star hotel, while the women’s team has reportedly been given a four-star property for the Asian Games 2026. Iyer backed the BCCI’s plan to send an advance team, stressing that athlete welfare should remain the priority.
“The BCCI is taking care of its athletes, and sending an advance team is the right way to assess the facilities before making a decision. We are completely for the well-being of the athletes,” Iyer said.

He added that the objective is to ensure the Indian delegation enjoys a comfortable stay while allowing athletes to focus entirely on their performances without logistical concerns. If the BCCI decides to arrange separate hotels, it will have to communicate its decision to the Asian Games organisers through the IOA. The board would also need to notify the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Testing Agency about the arrangements.
Before beginning their Asian Games campaign, India will play Japan in a historic one-off T20I for the Suzuki Cup on September 22 at the Sano International Cricket Ground. It will be the first T20I meeting between the two nations.

The Shreyas Iyer-led Indian men’s team has directly qualified for the Asian Games quarter-final as one of the four highest-seeded teams, alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. India will begin their gold medal defence at Korogi Sports Park on September 28. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur’s Indian women’s team will also enter the competition at the quarter-final stage. They are scheduled to face the hosts, Japan, at Korogi Sports Park on September 17.
