Although India won the six-match T20I series, South Africa bounced back pretty well in the 6th T20I where they the beat the hostby a massive 105 runs. Having won the toss and choosing to bat first, South Africa put up a huge score of 175/3, where Lizelle Lee smashed a 47-ball 84 while opening. She was well supported by another opener Sune Luus, who’s 62 off 56 balls included seven fours and their knocks helped put up a massive first-wicket stand of 144 runs.

Indian bowlers Mansi Joshi and Deepti Sharma were the bowlers who were hit most, with Joshi going for an economy rate of 12.25 runs per over, and Deepti Sharma going for 8.67 runs an over. Both finishing their bowling quotas without a wicket. The Indian bowlers failed to restrict them within a below par. India finally got their first breakthrough when Poonam Yadav got the wicket of Lee in the 16th over, but the damage had already been done by then and they ended up with a big total.

India were never really in the chase from the beginning. After surviving 2 overs, Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues both were dismissed off successive balls. Shabnim Ismail was the reason, and the Indian top-order had no answer before her bowling. With Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and Tanya Bhatia all going into the dug-out on after the other, their chase became more tough.

However, Veda Krishnamurthy and Arundhati Reddy gave the fans something to cheer for, building a partnership of 49 runs but it wasn’t enough for them. When Krishnamurthy was dismissed in the 14th over after making 26 off 24 balls, only eight more runs were added after that as Arundhati Reddy, Anuja Patil and Poonam Yadav unable to contribute much.

Deepti Sharma was awarded the player of the series for India, making 54 runs and taking six wickets in the series, but the 105 run loss was India’s second-biggest ever in the T20 format and gave South Africa a much-needed win.
