India secured the three-match ODI series against the hosts Australia after winning the third and final ODI of the series at Melbourne Cricket Ground (Melbourne) on Friday (18 January).
Indian skipper Virat Kohli decided to field first after winning the toss and restricted the Australian side for 230 runs (48.4 overs). In reply, the visiting side India chased that target successfully in 49.2 overs after losing three wickets.
India won that game by seven wickets while they won the series by the 1-2 margins.

i) Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal had a bowling figure of 10-0-42-6.
- Best ODI bowling figure on the Australian soil. The previous record holder was also an Indian and he was Ajit Agarkar who also had the bowling figure of 9.3-1-42-6 against Australia at Melbourne on 9 January 2004 but Chahal ended with the better economy rate.
- The second best ODI bowling figure by an Indian spinner at outside India. The best bowling figure in this list is 10-0-25-6 by Kuldeep Yadav against England at Nottingham on 12 July 2018.

ii) Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni played his third consecutive 50+ knocks in ODI innings.
- The fifth time when Dhoni has played three or more consecutive 50+ innings in his ODI career. Previously, he did this in 2014 during India tour of New Zealand. His best was playing 50+ knocks for four consecutive times in 2011.

iii) Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni played an unbeaten knock of 87 runs.
- Best ODI knock by a visiting wicketkeeper-batsman against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground (Melbourne). The previous best was 82* by Jeff Dujon (West Indies) on 12 February 1984.
- The second best ODI knock by an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman in Australia. MS Dhoni is also the best record holder who scored 88* against Sri Lanka at Brisbane on 5 February 2008.

iv) India won the series by 1-2.
- The first time India won a bilateral ODI series in Australia. Earlier, India had played only one bilateral ODI series in Australia and that was in 2015/16 when Australia had won that five-match ODI series by 4-1.
- After losing the first ODI of the series, India won the Test series by winning the last two ODIs of the series. First time India has won an ODI series outside Asia after coming from behind.
v) In this Australia tour, India drew the three-match T20I series by 1-1, won the four-match Test series by 2-1 and also won the three-match ODI series by 1-2.
- First team to not lose any of Test, ODI and T20I series in Australia on the same international tour.
