The Board of Control for Cricket in India recently announced the Indian Under-19 squad that will take part in the multi-format home series against Australia U19. The upcoming series may turn out to be a plate full of budding cricket talent, as it sees quite a few promising youngsters making it to the final list. But amongst them, one name stands out, not only for that potential but for the lineage too, Samit Dravid, the son of former India head coach and cricketing legend Rahul Dravid.
Furthermore, Samit has been picked up for both the One Day and Four Day squad, which in itself has been a major mile stone in his infantile cricket career. The three one-dayers will be followed by two four-day games. While the limited-overs leg will be played in Puducherry, the red-ball leg is all set to take place in Chennai.
Of course, in terms of the bigger picture back home, the fact that he will feature across formats has certainly pulled in eyeballs. On this front, it is pretty evident that Samit has lived up to his father’s giant legacy by just being his own self, knocking on every door through incremental hard work and runs scored at the U-16 and U-19 levels.

The other important figures in this one-day squad include the vice-captain Rudra Patel and captain Mohammad Amaan, with Sahil Parakh, Kartikeya KP, and Kiran Chormale lending further strength in depth to the batting line-up. Wicketkeepers Abhigyan Kundu and Harvansh Singh Pangalia will shoulder responsibilities behind the stumps, while Samit Dravid adds much-needed strength with his all-round skills.

This four-day squad, equally good, has Soham Patwardhan as captain, while Vihan Malhotra is the vice-captain. Name Samit Dravid again as an important member of the team. The side has a mix of all-rounders, batters, and bowlers. Chetan Sharma, Samarth N and Nikhil Kumar come into this list of important players who are going to be crucial for the longer-format success of India.

This series against Australia U-19 could be a big stepping stone for these young turfs in terms of experience against a strong competitive team. For Samit Dravid, this will be an opportunity to further cement his place as a bright young star, and for the rest, a chance to shine on a big stage. The cricket fraternity would keenly watch this next generation of Indian cricketers take the field.
