In a bizarre incident, young New Zealand batter Amelia Kerr was given not out where she was short of her crease after on-field umpires had already declared the ball dead during India’s match against New Zealand in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday as well. However, Kerr hit the ball down to long-off for a single.

India captain Harmanpreet picked up the ball and ran into the circle with the ball in hand but not throwing. Devine saw it from the wicketkeeper’s end and called Kerr for a second run as well. However, at the same time, the umpire had handed over the cap to the bowler Deepti Sharma, which usually signals the end of the over as well. The second run was a bad call from the New Zealand captain and Kaur quickly realised what was happening and threw the ball to the keeper’s end, where Richa Ghosh grabbed the ball and hit the stumps in a flash and Kerr was caught well short as well.

The New Zealand all-rounder, Amelia Kerr started walking back to the dressing room before the umpires intervened as well. They indicated that was a dead ball, so the review doesn’t come in place either. Soon an animated chat between Harmanpreet Kaur and the on-field umpires took place, where the Indian captain indicated that she was throwing the ball only because the New Zealand batters started taking the run as well.
