Indian women’s cricket team will play its maiden day-night pink-ball Test when they will take on Australia later this year, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed the news on Thursday. Shah has shared the news on his Twitter handle, stating that the move was taken as a part of the BCCI’s commitment to promoting women’s cricket as well.

However, the Indian women’s cricket team will take on England in a one-off Test which is also its first Test in seven years starting from June 16. Along with that, the Indian team will also play ODI and T20 International series Down Under as well. Notably, India had last played a Test against Australia in 2006.

However, the pink ball Test between India and Australia is going to be only the second match to be held in the history of women’s cricket as well. It is also noteworthy that, the only day-night women’s game had played so far was between Australia and England at Sydney in November 2017 where the match ended in a draw. The Test between India and Australia will be played at the WACA Ground from September 30 to October 3 as well.

“As players, we’ve said for a long time that we’d love to play more Test matches,” Australia captain Meg Lanning said on Wednesday. “It’s an exciting prospect and I know (India) are heading over to England to play a Test match pretty soon so it shows they’re up for the challenge and really willing to play that format.”
