The Indian sports fraternity, including the batting legend, Sachin Tendulkar, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, veteran Indian opener, Rohit Sharma, came together to join in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s request to switch off the lights and light candles and diyas at 9 pm for 9 minutes on Sunday. The exercise was asked to perform by the PM in order to show the unification of the nation in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak.
While addressing the nation on April 3, PM Modi had urged the citizens of India to comes together and join the #9pm9minute initiative. It was nothing but to illuminate the common purpose we are all fighting for, referring to the Covid-19 pandemic that has wreaked havoc across the world.

India skipper Virat Kohli shared a picture with his wife Anushka Sharma on Twitter, saying, “A prayer in unity does make a difference. Pray for every being and stand together.”

Sachin Tendulkar also took to Twitter to share a picture with his family. In his tweet, the batting legend thanked the sanitation workers for their selfless services in their attempt to limit the spread of the virus.

Ever since PM Modi’s message, several sports personalities urged the Indian citizens to support the initiative. the Indian cricketers, like, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya among others had appealed the citizens to come together in the fight against Covid-19.

As of Sunday evening, the number of coronavirus cases in India has gone past 4000 while the death toll has exceeded 100. Across the world, more than 12 lakh people have been infected by the virus while over 66,000 have died.
