Stand-in Indian skipper, Shikhar Dhawan led India’s spirited celebrations in the dressing room in Port of Spain after the visitors whitewashed West Indies in the three-match ODI series. The Indian skipper got the players and the support staff, including Rahul Dravid, together and came up with a high-octane chant “We are Champions”. In a video shared by the BCCI on Thursday, July 28, Dhawan and Dravid were seen leading the dressing room pep talk after India’s 119-run win in the 3rd ODI.
Shikhar Dhawan led from the front with the bat, scoring 168 runs, including 2 fifties, in the 3-match ODI series. Dhawan highlighted that India, despite having a young squad, comfortably outclassed West Indies in the 3-match series. Notably, the senior opener became the first India captain to lead the team to a whitewash in an ODI series in the West Indies.
In the video shared by the BCCI, Shikhar Dhawa was heard asking, “Before I end this talk, I would like everyone to stand up, come close. Who are we?” “Champions!” his teammates replied in unison.

Shikhar Dhawan added, “As a team, we would like to thank the support staff and all the team members who have helped us. And well done, boys. The batting unit as well as the bowling unit did amazing. Whatever we discussed before the series, we are a process-oriented team. You guys are young, you guys have a vision, and you’ll grow much bigger than what you are today. You have already started taking those steps, you guys will go a long way.”

Rahul Dravid said, “We came here with a really young team. A lot of the guys who played in the England series didn’t play here. But the way you guys have responded, the way you have handled the pressure, the professionalism, a couple of tight games, to get on the right side of those high-pressure games with some terrific performances was a really great achievement for a very young team. Really well done to Shikhar. Very well led skip. So well done to all of you, terrific performances.”
India will now be locking horns with West Indies in a 5-match T20I series scheduled to be commencing on July 29. Rohit Sharma will lead a nearly full-strength squad, which will be without Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul.
