India’s first win in South Africa

During India’s tour of South Africa in 2006, India defeated the hosts by 123 runs in the first Test at Johannesburg to register their maiden Test victory on the South African soil. Having lost the five-match ODI series 0-4, this victory was even special for the team.

This match also marked the return of former captain, Sourav Ganguly, into the side. Coming in to bat on the fall of captain Rahul Dravid’s (32) wicket at 4/110, Ganguly scored an unbeaten 51 (101), including four fours and a six. His innings was instrumental in India scoring a decent 249-10 in 79.5 overs.

What worked the best for team India was the fact that they dismissed the Proteas on 84 in 25.1 overs in the first innings. Sreesanth had picked up ‘Man of the Match’ figures of 10-3-40-5. Watch the full video of South Africa’s chase:
