The Indian cricket team is deep into their preparations at Perth’s WACA Stadium, gearing up for the first Test at the Optus Stadium on November 22. Despite a rigorous training schedule, the team faces significant challenges with injuries, most notably to Shubman Gill, whose thumb injury could rule him out of the opener. Amid these concerns, bowling coach Morne Morkel expressed confidence in the performance of India’s bowling unit, which is shaping up well for the Australian conditions.

Jasprit Bumrah is not only spearheading the pace attack but is also set to lead the team in Rohit Sharma’s likely absence. The pace lineup includes Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Harshit Rana, and debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy. Morkel praised Siraj for his aggressive mindset and leadership qualities, highlighting his crucial role in the team’s plans.

“This man [Siraj] is a legend. He’s got a big heart, an aggressive mindset, and is one of the leaders of the attack. I’m very excited to see how he performs on this tour,” Morne Morkel remarked in a BCCI-released video. Reflecting on Siraj’s previous success in Australia, he added, “Last tour, he was the go-to man in tough situations, and we’re looking forward to seeing him take on a senior role again.”

Morne Morkel also lauded the bowlers for adapting well to the challenging conditions during practice sessions. “Very happy with how the bowlers went. They summed up conditions well, and we’re on track for the 22nd,” he said, emphasizing the team’s focus on refining game plans in the remaining sessions.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is in Mumbai after welcoming his second child with wife Ritika Sajdeh. The Indian skipper has reportedly sought permission from the BCCI to spend time with his family and is expected to rejoin the team for the second Test in Adelaide.
