Star South African pacer Dale Steyn has been ruled out of the Cape Town Test and full series against India after sustaining tissue damage in his foot. It was his comeback match after more than a year and he last played against Australia in November 2016.
Steyn left the field before tea break and went for scans, who confirmed a bad news for South Africa. Dr. Mohammed Moosajee, team manager and medical doctor said “During Dale’s 18th over, he landed awkwardly in the footholds, causing significant strain in the foot, leading to tissue damage on the underside of the foot in the heel area. He is unlikely to bowl in this Test match because the recovery period could be anything from four to six weeks.”
He may miss some matches of the limited-overs leg as his recovery will take time around 4-6 weeks.
South Africa was uncertain over his availability before Cape Town Test, but team management decided to give him a go with three other fast bowlers in the team. This was the most unfortunate thing for them as Steyn was coming back in this game with just two T20 games under his belt and with no other first-class match.
